What is Sandrena Gel?
Sandrena is a transdermal oestrogen-only gel used as part of hormone replacement therapy (HRT). It contains estradiol, a body-identical form of oestrogen, to replace the hormone your body gradually stops producing during perimenopause and menopause.
It comes in pre-measured 0.5mg or 1mg sachets. The dose is tailored to your needs based on symptoms and treatment goals.
If you still have your womb, Sandrena will be prescribed alongside progesterone to protect the lining of your womb. This may be in the form of a tablet or a Mirena coil.
Why choose Sandrena?
Sandrena is part of the transdermal (through the skin) group of HRT options, which means the oestrogen is absorbed directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the liver. This offers several advantages:
- Lower risk of blood clots than oral HRT¹
- Gentler on the stomach and liver, especially if you have digestive issues
- Flexible dosing with easy-to-adjust sachets
- Quick-drying, low-volume gel that some women find more convenient than pump-based gels like Oestrogel
- Stable oestrogen levels, which may improve mood and reduce hormone fluctuations²
Sandrena is especially suitable if:
- You prefer not to take tablets
- You’ve experienced side effects with oral HRT
- You’re at increased risk of clotting or cardiovascular problems
- You want a discreet and adaptable option that fits into your daily routine
