Intrarosa
Intrarosa
A complete guide to Intrarosa: how it works differently from other vaginal treatments, step-by-step application at bedtime, what to expect in the first few weeks, and the practical questions most women have before starting.

What is Intrarosa?
Intrarosa contains prasterone (dehydroepiandrosterone or DHEA), a naturally occurring hormone that acts as a precursor to both oestrogen and testosterone in the body.
As a pessary, Intrarosa is inserted into the vagina once daily at bedtime. Once absorbed by the vaginal tissues, the prasterone is converted locally into small amounts of oestrogen and testosterone, helping to restore vaginal tissue health and comfort.
Intrarosa is a popular choice among local vaginal treatments due to its hormone precursor approach, once-daily dosing, local action without systemic effects, and effectiveness in treating vaginal symptoms of menopause.
Benefits of Intrarosa
Intrarosa works differently from other vaginal treatments. Rather than delivering oestrogen directly, it contains prasterone (DHEA) which is a naturally occurring hormone precursor that your vaginal tissues convert into both oestrogen and testosterone locally. This means it addresses both tissue health and the physical aspects of sexual response, with minimal absorption into the bloodstream. It is inserted once daily at bedtime as a small pessary.
Symptoms this treatment addresses:
- Vaginal dryness, soreness, and irritation
- Pain or discomfort during sex
- Loss of elasticity or flexibility in the vaginal tissues
- Reduced natural lubrication
- Recurrent urinary tract infections related to vaginal dryness
How to use Intrarosa

Side effects of Intrarosa
As with all treatments, some side effects can occur, particularly in the first few weeks as the vaginal tissues adjust.
