A higher dose of Wegovy (7.2mg) is in development and expected to be approved in 2026. So if you are wondering whether you can go higher than 2.4mg Wegovy, the answer is no at this time, but it may change next year. If it becomes available, we will let you know.

If you reach the 2.4mg dose, you usually stay on it until you reach your goal weight. After that, if it continues to control your appetite and help you maintain results, you can stay on 2.4mg long term. Everyone’s maintenance dose is different. Some people later move to a lower dose once their weight has been stable for a while. The right maintenance dose is the one that keeps your appetite and “food noise” low, your weight steady, and side effects manageable.

Semaglutide (Wegovy’s active ingredient) has a half-life of about 7 days. That means roughly half the dose leaves your body each week. By 3 to 4 weeks, more than 90% has cleared. It is usually fully cleared within 6 to 7 weeks after your last injection.

Counting clicks is not necessary. The pre-filled pen for Wegovy is set by dose display, not counted clicks. You rotate the dial until the window shows “2.5mg” and then inject as directed.
