About
Seeing the struggles women experienced to receive good advice and support through the menopause made me realise several years ago that I had to upskill and become part of the solution.
Medical expertise
Following my specialist medical training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, I have worked as an NHS consultant in high risk obstetrics and general gynaecology for over 5 years. It was only just before becoming a consultant and hitting perimenopause myself, that I realised the tremendous need for menopause care. It is commonly assumed that gynaecologists are experts in this field but most are not unless they have undertaken additional training. I learned from many fantastic menopause specialists and I learned as I looked after women coming to the gynaecology service where I worked, many of whom had experienced early menopause in their 30s and even 20s due to treatment for cervical or ovarian cancers. Sadly many had never seen a menopause expert to support them and I am determined to become the doctor who could do that.
